BOUTON Sophie
Project status: closed
Dr. Sophie Bouton, a postdoctoral fellow at the Psychology of Perception Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Judit Gervain, is studying how a newborn’s brain reorganizes after a cochlear implant.
To this end, Dr. Bouton will study the brain activity of newborns, using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), an innovative brain imaging technique compatible with cochlear implants. Children will receive three types of stimuli (auditory, visual and audiovisual) before and after receiving a cochlear implant. The idea is to compare the ability of each child to identify sounds before and after receiving the implant and determine whether children with implants can identify sounds as well as children with normal hearing.
This study should lead to recommendations for teachers and speech therapists to improve care for children with cochlear implants.
