The Institut de l'Audition, a networks of many actors
Institut de l'Audition, a Institut Pasteur Centre dedicated to hearing, was created on the initiative of the Fondation Pour l'Audition and the Institut Pasteur. A joint research unit between the Institut Pasteur and Inserm, it includes scientific staff from the Institut Pasteur, Inserm and CNRS.
Institut de l'Audition will include a Centre for Research and Innovation in Human Audiology (or Ceriah) which develops innovative diagnostic methods. It will work in collaboration with the ENT departments of the Paris Public Assistance Hospitals (the Necker-Enfants Malades hospital...) and those of the regional university hospitals (Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand, Bordeaux...) and with other hearing health professionals, particularly hearing aid practitioners. The City of Paris is a partner in the project, particularly with regard to the acquisition of the building and the execution of the work in the building.
It was inaugurated on Thursday 27 February 2020, in the presence of the French Prime Minister, Édouard Philippe.
A FUNDAMENTAL AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH CENTRE DEDICATED TO HEARING
Institut de l'Audition, a Institut Pasteur Centre, pursues 3 priority missions :
TO CONDUCT FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH OF EXCELLENCE
To elucidate the principles and mechanisms of deafness: development and functioning of the auditory system; auditory perception and cognition; sound communication; multisensory integration; interactions between the genome and the sound environment
TO DEVELOP TRANSLATIONAL APPROACHES
To improve patient care: understanding the pathogenesis of neurosensory hearing impairment; development of multiparametric tools for diagnosing hearing impairment; development of innovative therapies for children and young or aging adults; development of hearing rehabilitation based on advances in fundamental scientific knowledge.
DISSEMINATING SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE
To support the international scientific, medical and paramedical community, and to inform the hearing impaired of the issues behind the discoveries.
INNOVATION TO IMPROVE CARE FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED
The originality of the Institut de l'Audition is based on:
- the interdisciplinarity of its research, from biophysics to computational neuroscience,
- the study of the auditory system from the periphery to the centres - permanent exchanges between research carried out on humans and animals,
- a continuum between fundamental and translational research to optimize interactions between research and industry,
- the dissemination of knowledge to scientists, health professionals (doctors, hearing aid practitioners, speech therapists, etc.), hearing impaired associations and the general public.
