A number of people with hearing loss wear a cochlear implant in one ear and a hearing aid in the other. Jeanne Clarke is studying the interactions between these two devices to improve their joint performance.
Dr. Clarke’s project, supervised by Professor Olivier Macherey, is aimed at studying if and when these two types of information (electrical and acoustic) from the cochlear implant and the hearing aid fuse, and whether this fusion makes a positive impact on speech comprehension.
This research will enable people with hearing loss who wear both a cochlear implant and a hearing aid to better adjust their devices and optimize their joint performance.
